STATELINE POND UPDATES November 2019

The drawdown of the pond for the purpose of weed control has now begun.

While the pond is drained, obstruction to the drain outlet will be cleared.

Due to the dangerous conditions caused by the draining, access to the pond will remain blocked until the water level is returned to normal.

FISHING:

We regret that ALL FISHING will have to be totally restricted until further notice. Posting of this notice will be in place around all public access areas of the pond. We look forward to removing these restrictions as soon as possible.

The pond has developed a serious problem regarding fish that has to be addressed immediately.

The population of fish is seriously diminished due to the extreme amount of invasive aquatic plant growth which is depriving the fish of oxygen in the water that they need to survive. In a recent evaluation of the pond, it was determined that the extreme increase in the amount of leeches is a direct link to the extreme loss in the fish population. In short, there aren’t enough fish to eat the leeches. A strong fish population is absolutely essential to the ponds ECO system and existence.

We can’t stress enough the importance of protecting the remaining fish population until the weed problem is solved and they have a chance to regenerate.

SOLUTION

The Whispering Pines Lake Association (AKA Stateline Pond) has entered into a contract with The Pond and Lake Connection of CT to provide all necessary permits that would allow us to have the company apply chemical treatments to the pond before the weed growth begins next year. We understand that the treatments target specific plants and pose no threat to any other water or plant life. The chemical distribution will be done in a targeted manner from airboats.

THIS TREATMENT IS EXTREMELY AFFORDABLE WITH THE PARTICIPATION OF OUR ENTIRE LAKE “COMMUNITY”.

All will be explained in greater detail at our next Association meeting tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, January 22, 2020, at 7:00 pm at the Stafford Town Hall.

ALL ARE INVITED AND ENCOURAGED ATTEND.
